Are you preparing for your U.S. immigration journey and looking for an immigration lawyer in the U.S.? But wondering whether these lawyers are truly licensed or not?
In the U.S., each state has its own State Bar Association. That’s why you need to identify which state your lawyer is licensed in so you can save time when checking their credentials.
Today, let’s learn with Nexbridge how to verify a lawyer’s license with the State Bar of California in just a few simple steps:
1️⃣ Visit: State Bar of California Licensee Search
2️⃣ Enter the lawyer’s name or Bar Number in the search box
3️⃣ Review the search results:
Date of admission to practice law
License status: Active (currently authorized to practice), Disbarred (permanently banned – avoid at all costs), Not Eligible/Ineligible (temporarily not authorized to practice)
Disciplinary or complaint history (if any)
If your lawyer’s name does not appear in the system → chances are they are not licensed in that state!
For other states, the process is quite similar. To find the verification link for any state, simply search with the keyword: "[STATE NAME] BAR ATTORNEY SEARCH".
Checking your immigration lawyer’s license will help you avoid unnecessary risks and protect your immigration case. That’s why before signing any contract with an immigration firm, make sure to confirm the company’s immigration lawyer and whether their license is still valid.
